Women and Youth Empowerment Program

Focus Area: Economic Empowerment, Skills Development, Entrepreneurship, and Self-Reliance

Program Overview:

The Women and Youth Empowerment Program is a core initiative of Rutnak Pearl Development Foundation – Uganda (RPDF-Uganda) designed to uplift refugee and rural women and young people through skills training, mentorship, and enterprise development.

The program addresses unemployment and poverty by equipping participants with practical vocational skills such as tailoring, crafts, agriculture, and reusable pad-making. It also provides entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, and start-up support to help participants start and sustain small businesses.

Through community-driven approaches, the program nurtures self-reliance, confidence, and leadership—empowering women and youth to become active contributors to local development.


Key Objectives:

  • Equip women and youth with employable and entrepreneurial skills.
  • Promote income-generating activities for sustainable livelihoods.
  • Support financial literacy, savings culture, and business start-ups.
  • Foster gender equality and youth participation in community development.
  • Strengthen resilience among refugees and host communities.

Program Activities:

  • Vocational Skills Training: Tailoring, crafts, agriculture, soap-making, and reusable sanitary pad production.
  • Entrepreneurship & Business Development: Coaching on business planning, marketing, and financial management.
  • Youth Mentorship & Leadership Training: Life skills and career guidance for young people in refugee and rural areas.
  • Women’s Economic Groups: Formation of cooperatives and self-help groups to enhance collective savings and enterprise growth.
  • Linkages & Partnerships: Connecting graduates with markets, microfinance institutions, and local business networks.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased self-employment and household income.
  • Enhanced confidence and leadership among women and youth.
  • Sustainable community-based enterprises in refugee and rural areas.
  • Reduced poverty and dependence on humanitarian aid.
  • Strengthened gender equity and inclusion.

Program Impact:

Since its inception, RPDF-Uganda’s empowerment initiatives have transformed the lives of hundreds of women and youth in Nakivale and Bidibidi Refugee Settlements by providing them with skills, tools, and opportunities to become self-reliant.

Participants report improved livelihoods, restored dignity, and renewed hope for a better future.
