Program Overview:
The Environmental Protection & Climate Resilience Program is a key initiative of Rutnak Pearl Development Foundation – Uganda (RPDF-Uganda) dedicated to promoting sustainable environmental practices in refugee settlements and rural communities.
The program responds to the growing threats of deforestation, waste pollution, and climate change by engaging women, youth, and local leaders in activities that restore ecosystems and build community resilience.
Through tree planting, climate education, waste management, and eco-friendly livelihood training, RPDF-Uganda empowers communities to take local action for a sustainable planet while improving their living standards.
Key Objectives:
- Promote environmental conservation and natural resource regeneration.
- Build community capacity to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
- Encourage eco-friendly income-generating activities among women and youth.
- Raise awareness on environmental sustainability and responsible waste management.
- Integrate climate resilience into refugee and rural development programs.
Program Activities:
- Community Tree Planting Campaigns: Mobilising youth and women to restore forests in Nakivale and Bidibidi Refugee Settlements.
- Green Livelihoods Training: Promoting briquette making, organic farming, and sustainable energy solutions.
- Solid Waste Management: Conducting community clean-up drives and promoting recycling and waste segregation.
- Climate Change Education: Establishing environmental clubs in schools and leading awareness campaigns on conservation practices.
- Partnerships & Advocacy: Working with local governments, NGOs, and international partners to mainstream climate resilience.
Expected Outcomes:
- Increased forest cover and improved soil and water conservation.
- Reduced environmental degradation and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Enhanced awareness and behavioural change towards sustainable living.
- Empowered women and youth engaged in green enterprises.
- Strengthened climate resilience in refugee and host communities.
Program Impact:
RPDF-Uganda’s environmental initiatives have engaged hundreds of youth and women in refugee and host communities, resulting in the planting of thousands of trees and the creation of eco-friendly livelihoods.
The program not only protects the environment but also provides sustainable income sources that uplift families and promote long-term resilience.
